Should You Buy the PS5 Pro in 2026?

The PS5 Pro launched at $699 — without a disc drive — making it Sony's most expensive console ever. It promises 4K gaming at higher frame rates with improved ray tracing, but is the performance jump worth the premium over the standard PS5? The GPU upgrade is substantial: roughly 45% faster rendering than the standard PS5, with support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony's answer to NVIDIA's DLSS. In enhanced titles like Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank, and Spider-Man 2, you get genuine 4K at 60fps with ray tracing — something the base PS5 couldn't deliver without compromise.
